Orlando Custom Cataract Surgery

Your eyes are as unique as you are. Keeping in mind your specific needs and desires, we perform custom cataract surgery that produces results as unique as they are astounding.

The personalization is much like having a tailored suit or dress made. Multiple sophisticated measurements are made to determine the size and shape of your eye before any surgery is performed. Surgery to remove the cataract is performed using advanced ultrasonic or femtosecond laser technology. And then the cataract is replaced with an advanced technology intraocular lens (IOL) if appropriate. You may receive a multifocal intraocular lens (IOL), an accommodating IOL or a toric IOL to correct astigmatism, depending on your visual needs and desires. Astigmatism may also be corrected with laser guided laser guided corneal incisions.

It’s about precision. Only through incredibly precise tools combined with years of experience can we deliver the kind of results patients rave about. Imagine reading a book, easily seeing the text on your smartphone, driving at night, or even playing sports- all without the need to use contacts or glasses.

It’s Easy On You

Although it is a highly intricate procedure requiring great skill, the entire procedure takes less than 20 minutes. You could be back home before lunch.

Let’s walk through just what will happen.

One secret is the unparalleled precision of the specialty Femtosecond Laser. Using a technique called phacoemulsification, we remove the cataract. First, a tiny incision is made, less than 1/8 of an inch long, through which is a small probe breaks apart the clouded lens. Then, we remove it with advanced hydraulic engineering. An custom sized IOL is then inserted (more about that in a minute) through the same incision.

Best of all? There is no pain, and everything heals quickly. Most patients can work and drive safely the next day.

Advanced Technology Intraocular Lens Implants

In the past, when cataract surgeons would remove the cataract, patients would still need contacts and glasses to function. The latest advances in laser technology now allow the implantation of Intraocular Lens, or IOL’s, which are specially engineered to mimic the eye’s natural lens and allow patients to be independent of glasses after surgery.

The results have been nothing short of astonishing. Patients not only see better than ever before, they also increase their quality of life. The world once again becomes crisp and vibrant.

Most cataract patients are given standard monofocal IOL’s which require the ongoing use of glasses or contacts. At Boutique Eye Orlando, we favor a more comprehensive and customized approach. Who wants glasses when you can live better without them?

Instead of Monofocal IOL’s, we recommend:

Multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) or EDOF (extended depth of focus)Implants

Multifocal IOL’s are dual-purpose: they replace cataracts and correct presbyopia. That means that even without glasses, you should be able to drive and read the newspaper with the same eye. Dr Haas and Boutique Eye Orlando recommend PanOptix and Symphony multifocal IOLs. from Tecnis© and ReSTOR©.

Toric Intraocular Lens Implants

Toric IOLs are specifically designed for patients with astigmatism. In the past, it was necessary to make small incisions called Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI’s) around the cornea when working with astigmatism. Toric IOLs usually produce better results without the need for those extra incisions. Even the most extreme astigmatism can be corrected with a toric IOL. Dr Haas and Boutique Eye Orlando recommend toric IOLs from Alcon and Johnson and Johnson.

Accommodating IOLs

Accommodating IOLs use high quality optics to give patients sharper vision at distance and for working at the computer. Although unaided reading vision can be excellent sometimes over the counter reading glasses may be needed with these IOLs. At Boutique Eye Orlando, we use Crystalens™ and Trulign™ the only FDA-approved accommodating IOL brands available. These incredible lenses work with the natural movement of your eye muscles to allow greater focus on objects near and far. They are used for both cataracts and presbyopia.
